In short: Online autism tests such as the AQ-10 and RAADS-R are screening questionnaires. They can suggest whether autistic traits are worth exploring, but only a registered professional can diagnose autism.

AQ-10 (Autism Spectrum Quotient, 10 items)
Developed at the Autism Research Centre (University of Cambridge) and recommended by the UKβs NICE as a quick adult screener. It has 10 statements; a score of 6 or more suggests a referral for specialist assessment may be appropriate. Get the official AQ-10 from the ARC.
RAADS-R (Ritvo Autism Asperger Diagnostic Scale β Revised)
An 80-question self-report scale covering language, social relatedness, sensory-motor and circumscribed interests. It is longer and more detailed than the AQ-10 and is often used by clinicians as part of adult assessment. A total of 65 or more is the published threshold suggesting autistic traits.
AQ test vs RAADS-R: which should I take?
| Test | Length | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| AQ-10 | 10 items, 2 minutes | A quick first check |
| AQ-50 | 50 items | A fuller picture of traits |
| RAADS-R | 80 items, 20β30 minutes | Detailed self-reflection before an assessment |
Are online autism tests accurate?
They are useful but imperfect. People who mask, women, and people with anxiety or trauma may score in misleading ways. Use results as a conversation starter with a professional.
Is there an AuDHD test?
No single validated AuDHD test exists. Screen for ADHD with our free ASRS self-screen and for autism with the tools above.
Getting a formal autism assessment in South Africa
