Ritalin is the best-known brand of methylphenidate, the most widely used ADHD medicine. In South Africa it comes as immediate-release tablets and as Ritalin LA capsules.

Common side effects
Reduced appetite, sleep difficulties, headaches, stomach aches, raised heart rate and rebound irritability as each dose wears off.
Which lasts longer?
Concerta lasts longest, followed by Ritalin LA. Short-acting Ritalin gives the most control over timing. Your prescriber chooses based on your day and how you respond.
