Do weighted blankets help?
A Swedish randomised trial found that weighted chain blankets improved insomnia in adults with psychiatric conditions including ADHD. Studies in autistic children have shown mixed results for sleep, although many families report a calming effect.
What weight should I choose?
- Adults: roughly 10% of body weight is a common starting point.
- Children: ask an occupational therapist. Never use weighted blankets for babies or toddlers, and ensure a child can remove the blanket themselves.
